26 Stunning Rescued Foxes Captured Beautifully Through Greg Murray’s Lens

Cleveland-based photographer Greg Murray has a special gift — capturing the real, soulful personalities of animals through his lens. His photos don’t just show faces; they tell stories. A passionate animal welfare advocate, Greg uses his wildlife photography to shine a light on animals that deserve love, care, and a voice.

For his latest project, Greg teamed up with Fox Tale Sanctuary in Ohio — a safe haven that provides lifelong care for rescued and captive-bred foxes. Together, they created the 2026 Fox Tale Sanctuary Wall Calendar, featuring 26 stunning portraits of these beautiful animals. Every photo captures something different — curious eyes, playful paws, and quiet moments that remind us how intelligent and emotional these foxes really are.

But this calendar isn’t just about gorgeous animal photography. It also helps fund the sanctuary’s mission — providing enrichment, safe habitats, and ongoing care for their furry residents. So every calendar purchased directly supports the foxes and their happy, healthy lives.

In this article, you’ll get an exclusive peek at the images from the calendar, plus a few unpublished shots from Greg’s private collection. Each photo is a gentle reminder of how powerful wildlife conservation and ethical animal photography can be — showing not just the beauty of these foxes, but their resilience and spirit too.

Greg Murray first discovered Fox Tale Sanctuary a few years back — and it was pretty much love at first sight. “When I first heard about Fox Tale Sanctuary, I was instantly drawn to what they do,” he shares. “I wanted to learn more about their mission, the foxes they care for, and how I could help through my photography.”

As soon as he connected with Michelle, the sanctuary’s founder, Greg knew he wanted to use his camera for more than just stunning photos. He wanted to help tell real stories — the kind that inspire compassion and action.

“My goal,” he says, “is to support Michelle, the incredible volunteers, and, of course, the rescue foxes who call Fox Tale home.”

Through his work, Greg has turned wildlife photography into something bigger — a form of animal advocacy that spreads awareness, supports conservation, and captures the pure heart of every fox he photographs.

Photographing the foxes at Fox Tale Sanctuary wasn’t your typical photo shoot — it came with its own unique set of challenges and rewards. Greg Murray shares, “Photographing foxes in their enclosures was both challenging and incredibly rewarding. It took a lot of patience and understanding. Some foxes were naturally curious and totally chill around me, while others kept their distance.”

Most of Greg’s portraits were captured inside the enclosures, though he sometimes shot from outside to make sure the foxes felt completely safe. “Just like in my studio work,” he says, “I’d hold a little food just above the lens to grab their attention and get them to come closer — it helped create that natural, engaging look you see in the photos.”

But beyond the technical stuff, Greg says the real secret to great wildlife photography is trust. “I spent time just being there — sitting quietly, letting them observe me, walk up, and sniff. I didn’t even touch the camera until they were comfortable,” he explains.

That simple act of patience and respect helped him capture something truly special — not just portraits of foxes, but real, soulful moments of connection. 🦊📸

Each photo reflects that bond — proof that when animal photography meets compassion, you don’t just take pictures… you tell their story.

Some of the foxes Greg Murray met during his time at Fox Tale Sanctuary left a mark on him forever — and one of them is Zoe, the stunning red fox featured on the cover of his calendar.

“Zoe’s story is heartbreaking but also incredibly inspiring,” Greg shares. “She was transferred to Fox Tale after being found shot. Because she still had a collar on, rescuers knew she was a captive-bred red fox. Her leg was completely shattered, but thanks to surgery and the amazing care she received, she recovered and adapted beautifully.”

But Zoe’s story didn’t stop there. Shortly after her recovery, the sanctuary welcomed seven tiny fox kits — one of them just three days old, a baby named Stink. Despite everything she’d been through, Zoe immediately stepped up as a caretaker. “She took on a nurturing role,” Greg says, “helping clean, stimulate, and comfort the babies like they were her own.”

That’s how she became known as “Mama Zoe.” Her strength, warmth, and gentle spirit captured not just Greg’s heart, but the heart of everyone at the sanctuary.

Zoe’s story perfectly represents what Fox Tale Sanctuary is all about — resilience, healing, and second chances. And through Greg’s wildlife photography, her story continues to inspire others to see these incredible animals with empathy and respect.

Through his Fox Tale Sanctuary calendar, Greg Murray hopes to do more than just share beautiful photos — he wants to educate people about the truth behind fox ownership.

“I really hope people look at these portraits and walk away with a deeper understanding of what’s actually happening,” Greg explains. “Most people are shocked to learn that foxes are often bred and sold as exotic pets, even though they’re wild animals and not meant for domestic life.”

He stresses that caring for a fox is nothing like owning a dog or cat. “If a fox is living with a person, it should only be under the care of trained, licensed wildlife professionals — not your average pet owner,” he says. “Here in Ohio, someone can legally own a fox by just filling out a form and paying $25. That’s honestly scary — and embarrassing. It shouldn’t be that easy.”

Greg hopes his work helps people see these animals for what they truly are — intelligent, emotional, and complex beings that deserve freedom, safety, and respect.

“My goal,” he says, “is that when people see these images, they don’t just see a cute face — they see the beauty, spirit, and wild nature of foxes. And they realize these animals belong in sanctuaries or the wild, not in someone’s backyard.”

His calendar isn’t just art — it’s advocacy through photography, using emotion and storytelling to inspire compassion and change for the voiceless.

Readers who want to make a real difference can easily support Fox Tale Sanctuary and its mission. Greg Murray shares, “You can buy the Fox Tale Sanctuary Calendar, and a portion of all profits goes straight to helping the foxes. Every purchase directly supports their care, enrichment, and safe living spaces.”

But that’s not all — there are even more ways to get involved. “You can also donate directly to the sanctuary,” Greg adds. “And if you want to do something extra special, you can even sponsor a fox — helping cover food, medical care, and daily needs for one of these amazing animals.”

Every little bit counts. Whether it’s buying the calendar, making a small donation, or sponsoring a fox, your support helps keep these rescued animals healthy, happy, and safe. ❤️🦊

It’s a simple way to turn love for wildlife photography into real-world action — and be part of something that truly matters.
